What Is Man That You Are Mindful of Him?

There is a question in Psalm 8 that has always carried a quiet kind of weight:

“What is man that You are mindful of him?”

It is not just a question. It is wonder. It is the psalmist standing in awe that God, the Creator of everything, would be so intentional about people.

If there is one thing God is thinking about, it is man.

Not in passing. Not occasionally. But with intention.

His thoughts toward people are about their wellbeing, their peace, their growth, their future. There is care in how God considers humanity. There is purpose in how He holds people in His mind.

And then there is us.

Created in His image. Given the ability to decide. Given influence.

We may not always realise it, but we shape outcomes every day. Through what we choose, what we say, and how we show up in people’s lives, we affect their experience of the world.

Which brings us back to the question.

What is man… to you?

What is that person to you, that you are mindful of them the way you are?

When you think about them negatively, when you speak harshly, when you act in ways that create tension or harm, what have you decided about them?

Because the way you think about people does not stay in your mind.

It shows up in your words. It shows up in your actions. And it affects them.

We have been given influence. That is a gift, but it is also a responsibility.

You can bring peace into someone’s life. You can build someone up.You can create space for growth, for dignity, for respect.

Or you can do the opposite.

So, the question remains:

What is that person to you… that you are mindful of them like that?
